Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8, 2023. This inauguration marks a significant milestone, making Mumbai one of the few cities in the world to have multiple airports, alongside London, New York, and Tokyo. The airport is poised to become an international transit hub, similar to Dubai International Airport or Singapore Changi International Airport. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in December 2023.

5. In its initial phase, the airport has one terminal and one runway, capable of handling around 20 million passengers annually. However, with four fully functional terminals and two runways, the airport will have the capacity to handle 155 million passengers at full capacity.
