₹3.18 Cr Duped in Real Estate, SUV and Land Deals

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-23

Three individuals have been defrauded of ₹3.18 crore through a string of bogus deals involving real estate, a sport utility vehicle and agricultural land, highlighting the growing risk of property fraud for buyers across India.

How the ₹3.18 crore fraud unfolded

The complaints allege that the accused lured victims with attractive deals on land parcels and a vehicle purchase, collected payments, and then failed to deliver the assets or complete the registrations. The total amount at stake runs into ₹3.18 crore, with individual losses running into several lakh each.

Red flags Maharashtra property buyers must watch

Land and plot disputes account for a large share of real-estate complaints in Maharashtra. Buyers should verify the title chain, confirm that the seller has a clear 7/12 extract or property card, and check for any encumbrances before paying advances.

Insist on a written agreement, keep all payments traceable through banking channels, and avoid cash dealings. Any promise of an unusually low rate or an immediate deal without due diligence is a warning sign.

Safeguards before you invest

Engage an independent advocate for title verification, confirm the zoning and permitted land use with the local planning authority, and never release a large sum before the sale deed is executed and stamped. A cautious, documentation-first approach is the best defence against fraud.
