43-Year-Old Real Estate Broker Arrested for Rape and Exploitation in Mumbai

Mumbai: A 43-year-old real estate broker was arrested on charges of rape and exploiting his business partner with the false promise of marriage, alongside threatening and stalking her. The Amboli police apprehended the broker on Saturday and presented him before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate court, which remanded him to police custody.

The broker's lawyer, Prabhakar Tripathi, alleged that his client has been falsely arrested. 'The FIR is a dispute between the two partners and it is a clear counter-blast to the arbitration proceedings. The High Court had granted an injunction restraining the complainant from using the company's intellectual property rights on social media. Despite her violation of the order, a contempt petition was filed,' said Tripathi.

The complainant first met the accused in January 2023 at a Juhu-based property office. According to the police, the accused gained the complainant's trust by proposing a business partnership and subsequently started a brokerage firm with her in August 2023 at a co-working space in Andheri West. During their business interactions, he allegedly misrepresented his marital status, claiming he was in the process of divorcing his wife, and promised to marry the complainant.

However, when the complainant later questioned him about their marriage, the accused allegedly told her that he would not leave his wife and instead demanded that she remain his mistress. He continued to threaten her, leading the complainant to stop attending the office and block him. Despite this, the accused allegedly continued stalking her.

The case has sparked significant attention in the real estate community, highlighting the importance of due diligence and trust in business partnerships. The complainant's legal team is working to ensure justice and protect her rights, while the accused's lawyer maintains his innocence and seeks to clear his client's name through legal proceedings.

The Amboli police are conducting a thorough investigation to gather all necessary evidence and ensure a fair trial. The community and legal experts are closely monitoring the case, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to prevent such exploitation and protect victims of sexual crimes and business fraud.

For anyone facing similar issues, it is crucial to seek legal advice and take immediate action to protect oneself from such predatory behavior. The real estate industry, in particular, should implement stricter regulations and background checks to prevent such incidents and maintain the integrity of the business environment.
