Arrests Made in Kandivali Real Estate Agent Shooting: Mastermind and Three Others Held in Pune Forest
The Mumbai crime branch has apprehended four individuals, including the alleged mastermind of the shooting incident on a real estate agent in Kandivali. The arrests were made from a forest in Pune, where the accused were hiding. The operation took more than a day, as the crime branch team had to comb through the dense forest to locate and arrest all four suspects.
The main accused, Rajesh Chauhan alias Daya (42), was known to the victim, Freddy D’Lima, as they lived in the same locality. The police believe that the dispute was primarily over financial issues, but further details will emerge during the interrogation. Chauhan has a history of criminal activities, including his involvement in the infamous murder of Bunty Pradhan, the proprietor of Dolphin Properties, in April 2014 in Mira Road.
Apart from Chauhan, the other three individuals arrested are Subhash Mohite (44) from Virar, Mangesh Chaudhari (40) from Pune, and Roshan Singh alias Krishna (25) from Thane. A crime branch officer stated that the investigation has been handed over to their team, and they will interrogate the accused to determine the extent of their involvement and roles in the crime.
The police suspect that a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) plot, which D’Lima was developing, might have been one of the reasons for the dispute. On Wednesday, D’Lima, a 42-year-old real estate agent, was shot at by three unidentified assailants in Kandivali (West). The shooting occurred around 2 pm when D’Lima was leaving a school in Ganesh Nagar after a meeting. As he stepped out, three individuals who were waiting outside opened fire on him.
The police reported that the bike rider and one pillion rider were wearing helmets, while the third man was wearing a cap. The shooters had their faces covered with masks. Despite sustaining bullet injuries to his abdomen and chest, D’Lima managed to drive himself to Oscar Hospital, where the bullets were successfully removed. He is currently out of danger.
The crime branch is now focused on gathering more evidence and conducting thorough interrogations to build a strong case. The local police station had also arrested one individual in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are determined to bring all those involved to justice.
