BAI Pune Welcomes New Executive Committee: PMC Commissioner Emphasizes Urban Planning
Pune, 25th April 2026: Stressing the role of industry bodies in urban development, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Navalkishor Ram said organisations like the Builders’ Association of India (BAI) have significantly contributed to Pune’s transformation into a major urban and economic hub.
He was addressing the installation ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of the Builders’ Association of India Pune Centre, where Ajay Gujar was re-elected as chairman. Rajaram Hajare was elected vice-chairman, Dr Mahesh Rathi as secretary, and Sushil Agrawal as treasurer for the 2026–27 term.
Pune, once known as a pensioners’ paradise, has evolved into a leading centre for IT, education, healthcare, and startups. This shift has been driven by planned development and expansion in the real estate and industrial sectors, Ram said. He added that organisations like BAI have played an important role in this transition.
However, he pointed to persistent urban challenges. Issues such as rising slum settlements, traffic congestion, limitations in public transport, and the need for better citizen engagement must be addressed in a coordinated manner, he said. He emphasised the need to strengthen last-mile connectivity and improve public transport systems, including PMPML, to support sustainable growth.
Outlining his agenda, Gujar said the association plans to renovate its office, organise a large-scale exhibition on construction materials and technologies, and host a national convention of BAI members in Pune. We will also focus on technical seminars, site visits, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to address sectoral challenges, while continuing welfare efforts for construction workers and their families, he said.
Additional Labour Commissioner Balasaheb Wagh highlighted the importance of coordination between builders and the labour department to ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes related to education, healthcare, and insurance for workers.
BAI Maharashtra president Prakash Menda also addressed the gathering. Members who made notable contributions over the past year were felicitated at the event.
