BJP-Shiv Sena Alliance Pledges Ownership Rights and Tech-Driven Governance in Mumbai
MUMBAI: The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance on Sunday unveiled its manifesto for the January 15 civic body elections in Mumbai, outlining a series of ambitious plans aimed at transforming the city. The manifesto focuses on technology-led governance, significant improvements in public transport, and addressing long-standing issues in the real estate sector.
The manifesto emphasizes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to curb corruption, speed up clearances, and improve service delivery. “Our goal is a corruption-free municipal corporation,” stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who outlined an AI-driven platform to fast-track building approvals and ensure transparency in the real estate sector.
One of the key housing and redevelopment commitments is the ‘Pagadimukt Mumbai’ initiative, designed to resolve tenancy issues. The alliance has promised occupancy certificates for 20,000 stalled buildings, which would benefit a significant number of residents. Under this initiative, the Pagadi (colonial-era rent agreement) system buildings will be redeveloped, ensuring that both tenants and owners receive their fair share. Tenants will be provided with housing in the same redeveloped buildings.
Fadnavis also announced plans to expand the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet from around 5,000 to 10,000 buses. The alliance intends to switch to electric vehicles and introduce a 50% concession on fares for women travellers. This move is expected to enhance the convenience and affordability of public transport for women in the city.
The manifesto also includes a commitment to making Mumbai’s roads pothole-free. If the road width exceeds nine metres, it will be concretised. For narrower roads, asphalt will be used. This initiative aims to improve the overall quality of the city’s infrastructure and ensure smoother travel.
Regarding the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, CM Fadnavis said that an ecosystem will be created to upgrade micro businesses in the area. The manifesto also mentions a “flood-free Mumbai” plan, promising that the city will be free from inundation within five years by adopting Japanese techniques and collaborating with institutions. This comprehensive approach aims to address the recurring issue of flooding, which has long plagued the city.
Additionally, the alliance has promised round-the-clock drinking water supply, a move that could significantly improve the quality of life for Mumbai’s residents. The manifesto outlines a series of measures to ensure that the city’s water supply is reliable and accessible to all.
Overall, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance’s manifesto represents a comprehensive plan to address the diverse needs of Mumbai’s residents, from housing and transport to infrastructure and governance. The alliance’s commitment to technology and transparency is a promising step towards a more efficient and responsive municipal corporation.
