Delhi Police Arrests Cyber Stalker for Defaming Woman on Social Media

The cyber cell of Delhi Police made a significant arrest on Wednesday, nabbing a cyber stalker from Maharashtra who had been harassing and defaming a woman by posting her photographs with offensive comments on social media platforms and writing her phone number in public places. The accused, identified as Yasin Sheikh, was apprehended from Pune based on a complaint filed by a 38-year-old woman at the North District police station.

According to the victim, the accused was causing her immense distress by uploading her pictures on social media and writing derogatory comments. She also alleged that the accused had extracted her mobile number from her Instagram account and inscribed it in various public places, including the walls of toilets and railway platforms in Pune.

The victim further claimed that the accused was creating multiple Instagram accounts in her name and uploading videos with her mobile number, along with derogatory remarks like 'Call girl service.' This led to her receiving numerous phone calls from unknown numbers, often with nasty requests, causing her significant mental trauma.

Following the complaints, the police team meticulously scanned the call records of the accused's mobile number and IP addresses to track him down. During the raids, Sheikh, who had been harassing the complainant for the past 2-3 years, was apprehended.

During the interrogation, Sheikh admitted to being a resident of Pune and working as an auto-rickshaw driver. He was described as eccentric and possibly mentally unstable. Sheikh told the police that he had a girlfriend who used to work with the husband of the complainant. He claimed that he had asked his girlfriend not to work with the complainant's husband, but when his request was ignored, he acted in revenge to defame the complainant.

When questioned by the police, the girlfriend in question denied having an affair with the accused and stated that he was just a friend. She further explained that she had noticed his obsession and subsequently unfriended him on social media platforms.

The arrest has brought a sense of relief to the victim and her family, who had been dealing with the harassment for an extended period. The police have praised the cyber cell's efforts in tracking down and apprehending the accused, highlighting the importance of proactive measures in combating cybercrime.
