Dolly J Launches Menswear Store: Redefining Modern Indian Masculinity
Designer Dolly J has unveiled her first-ever standalone menswear store at Dhan Mill, New Delhi, marking a defining moment for the label as it expands into a more focused universe of couture for men. Known for her quiet elegance and detail-driven craftsmanship in womenswear, Dolly J now turns her attention to the modern Indian man: one who values restraint, identity, and intention over excess.
Spanning 1,000 sq. ft., the new Dolly J menswear store is designed as a warm, immersive environment. Rich dark wood interiors, arched vaulted ceilings, and soft ambient lighting create a gallery-like setting where garments take centre stage. Blending heritage cues with modern Indian luxury, the space mirrors the brand’s refined sensibility: minimal yet layered, sophisticated yet grounded.
The store houses the label’s complete menswear offering, including sherwanis, bandhgalas, festive kurtas, and contemporary occasion wear. With private shopping appointments and personal consultations now part of the experience, Dolly J menswear introduces a more intimate, tailored approach to luxury retail.
In this conversation with LuxeBook, the designer reflects on masculinity, modern luxury, and why menswear needed a space of its own.
LuxeBook: What made menswear feel like the right next chapter for you, and why did it deserve a standalone store of its own?
Dolly: Menswear has always intrigued me, not as a counterpart to womenswear but as its own world of nuance, discipline, and personality. Over the years, I noticed so many men drawn to the Dolly J sensibility. They wanted that same quiet elegance, that depth of detail we bring to our womenswear. It felt organic to give that aesthetic its own home, one that channels masculine energy through our lens. Tailored, textured, and timeless. A standalone store was important because menswear needed space to breathe and express its own identity, without being overshadowed by the feminine universe.
LuxeBook: How do you want a man to feel the moment he puts on a Dolly J piece?
Dolly: I want him to feel effortlessly self-assured. Like himself, only refined. Every texture and detail is meant to enhance who he already is rather than transform him into something else. There is a quiet strength in wearing something created with intention, and that is the feeling I hope he carries.
LuxeBook: Is the modern Indian man dressing for tradition today, or is he finally dressing for identity?
Dolly: I believe he is dressing for both, but with a more evolved understanding. Tradition is no longer about repeating what has been done. It is about reimagining it. The modern Indian man honours where he comes from, yet he also wants to express his own rhythm and individuality. Our menswear lives in that sweet spot where cultural roots meet personal expression.
LuxeBook: What detail in this collection is your quiet flex?
Dolly: For me, it is the artistry in the detailing. We have taken traditional embroidery and softened it, so you almost sense it before you see it. The finishing, the fabrics, the gentle sheen of tone-on-tone thread work, it is luxury that never raises its voice. That subtlety is our quiet flex.
LuxeBook: What does luxury mean to you?
Dolly: For me, luxury is time. Time spent perfecting a piece until it feels effortless on the body. It is in the touch of a hand-finished garment, the fall of a thoughtful silhouette, and the restraint that allows the wearer to shine. True luxury is never loud. It is something you feel long before you notice it.
LuxeBook: What did the design process of the store look like?
Dolly: The store was imagined as an extension of the menswear world we were building. Sophisticated, grounded, and immersive. We wanted it to feel like stepping into a space where every texture, surface, and beam of light reflects the same thoughtfulness as the garments. It is modern but warm, minimal yet layered, much like the men we create for.
