Farmers Protest Against Ujjain Development Authority Over Land Grab

Around 500 farmers from Ujjain gathered and gheraoed the Collector’s office to protest against the Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) on Tuesday. The farmers have also submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, accusing the UDA of trying to take over their agricultural land without their permission.

In the application, the farmers alleged that the UDA is acting like land mafias, trying to forcefully occupy their land and build a colony for selling plots. The farmers hail from the area near to Ujjain's famous Simhastha Mela venue. The memorandum was submitted at the Brihaspati Bhavan in Ujjain, where the weekly Jan Sunwai (public hearing) takes place.

They claimed that nearly half of their land is being targeted for development under a plan which they have not agreed to. The farmers said they had already raised written and verbal objections with the UDA, but no action has been taken to resolve their concerns. According to them, their complaints have been ignored, and the authority has also given false information to media outlets, including newspapers and news channels, about the situation.

They also mentioned facing mental and physical harassment during the process. The farmers are now requesting the district administration to intervene, stop the illegal land occupation, and take proper action against those responsible.
