In a heartwarming gesture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is currently undergoing treatment for blood cancer. This decision was taken by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who not only directed the cricket board to release the funds but also personally contacted Gaekwad's family to assess the situation and ensure their assistance.

Anshuman Gaekwad, a former right-handed batter, has had an illustrious career, playing 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in December 1974 and scored 1985 runs in Test cricket at an average of 30.07, including 2 centuries and 10 half-centuries. His notable performance includes a score of 201 against Pakistan at Jalandhar in 1982-83.

Apart from the BCCI's financial assistance, a fund-raising effort is also being led by cricket legends Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. The 1983 World Cup-winning team, including players like Mohinder Amarnath and Ravi Shastri, has decided to contribute three months of their BCCI pension, totaling around Rs 50 lakh, to support Gaekwad's treatment.

This joint effort by the cricket fraternity is a testament to the support and solidarity that exists among the players, both past and present. It is heartening to see the BCCI and other cricketing legends coming forward to support Gaekwad in his time of need.
