Hyderabad: Man and Daughter End Lives in Lake Due to Financial Crisis
In a deeply saddening event, a man from Hyderabad, struggling with financial difficulties, ended his life along with his five-year-old daughter by jumping into a lake. The incident took place in Petbasheerabad, a suburb of the city.
According to the police, Ashok (50), a native of Lal Bazaar, had been facing significant financial challenges. He had married Soni about 15 years ago, and the couple had a daughter, Divya. To make ends meet, the family moved to Indiramma Colony in Bahadurpally, where Ashok worked as a cook.
About three years ago, Ashok’s wife met with an accident while crossing a road in Bahadurpally. The accident resulted in the amputation of her left leg, leaving her disabled. This further exacerbated the family's financial crisis, as Ashok was the sole breadwinner with no steady income.
Recently, the couple had reportedly decided to end their lives along with their daughter. A few days prior to the incident, Ashok had attempted to set the family on fire by opening a gas cylinder and lighting it. However, his wife managed to escape and raise the alarm, and neighbors rushed in to douse the flames.
The next evening, Ashok took his daughter Divya to Komatikunta Lake in Maisammaguda and jumped in with her. On Thursday evening, locals spotted the bodies floating in the water and alerted the police. The Petbasheerabad police reached the spot and, with the help of disaster response teams, retrieved the bodies. The case is currently under investigation.
This tragic incident highlights the severe impact of financial stress on families and underscores the need for robust social support systems to prevent such heartbreaking outcomes. The community and authorities are grappling with the aftermath and working to provide necessary assistance to the family and others in similar situations.
