IIT Bombay Hostel Cartridge Case: Powai Police Arrest Second Accused from Ujjain
Mumbai, March 6: The Powai police have made significant progress in the case of live cartridges found in an IIT Bombay hostel room. Prashantraj Yadav, a 24-year-old real estate agent from Bihar, was arrested in Ujjain while returning from a religious tour. This arrest comes after the earlier apprehension of Sarvottam Chaudhary, 23, who was the first accused in the case.
Yadav, a resident of Bihar, is alleged to have shared photos of weapons with Chaudhary. Both men have been sent to judicial custody. The police have been investigating the motives behind the possession of these live cartridges and the potential threats they posed.
On February 19, five live 7.65 mm cartridges were discovered in the room of Apurv Mishra, a first-year BTech student at IIT Bombay. Mishra, who is a friend of Chaudhary, had previously stated that the cartridges were brought by Chaudhary. The discovery of these cartridges raised concerns among the IIT Bombay administration and the local police, leading to a swift investigation.
During the interrogation, Mishra revealed that he had kept the cartridges to impress other students and gain attention, rather than to cause harm. This admission has helped the police understand the context of the incident and focus their efforts on ensuring the safety of the campus.
Chaudhary and Yadav had also discussed the possibility of purchasing a weapon, though this plan did not materialize. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the accused's activities and to ensure that all potential threats are identified and neutralized.
The arrest of Yadav is a significant step in bringing closure to this case and maintaining the security and well-being of the IIT Bombay community. The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring that such incidents do not occur in the future and that the campus remains a safe and secure environment for students and staff alike.
