Katraj-Kondhwa Bypass Road: Completion by June 2026 Assured
Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has firmly assured that the long-delayed Katraj-Kondhwa bypass road will be completed by June 2026. Speaking at a real estate conclave on September 11, alongside Pune District Collector Jeetendra Dudi, Commissioner Ram emphasized that the delay was due to administrative indecision rather than impossibility. A joint meeting between the Collector and PMC officials has led to an integrated and systematic execution plan.
While Rs 270 crore has been sanctioned for land acquisition, only Rs 46,456 sq. ft. of the required 94.46 lakh sq. ft. has been acquired so far. To address this, Rs 220 crore has been reallocated from various departments. The original plan of an 84-meters-wide road has been scaled down to 50 meters to reduce costs and expedite work.
Construction has begun where land is available, including a grade separator for traffic flow. The PMC will also install 300 mm rainwater drainage lines at flood-prone areas like Rajas Society and near SBI to prevent waterlogging during monsoons. This will significantly improve the road's functionality and safety, especially during the monsoon season.
The Katraj-Kondhwa bypass road project is crucial for Pune's infrastructure development, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between key areas. The project has faced several challenges, including land acquisition and administrative delays, but the recent integrated approach and reallocation of funds have provided a much-needed boost.
Residents and commuters in the area are hopeful that the completion of this bypass will bring a significant improvement in their daily travel experiences. The road is expected to reduce travel time and ease the burden on existing routes, contributing to the overall development and modernization of Pune's transportation network.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) remains committed to ensuring the project's timely completion, with Commissioner Ram and District Collector Dudi working closely to overcome any remaining hurdles. The collaboration between these key officials is a testament to the city's dedication to improving its infrastructure and quality of life for its residents.
