Khaitan & Co Advises Reliance Industries on Strategic AI Data Centre Partnership with Meta

Khaitan & Co has advised Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on its strategic partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc. for the development of Meta's first artificial intelligence-enabled data centre in India. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in the digital landscape of the country, aligning with the growing demand for advanced AI and computing capabilities.

As part of the transaction, Reliance will develop a state-of-the-art, built-to-suit 168 MW hyperscale data centre at Jamnagar in Gujarat. This facility will be leased by Meta to support its expanding AI and computing requirements. The project not only strengthens India's digital infrastructure but also underscores the increasing investment by global technology giants in AI-focused facilities within the nation.

Under the arrangement, Reliance will provide comprehensive end-to-end services for the data centre, encompassing its design and construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity, and managed services. The data centre is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting Meta's growing AI operations and enhancing its computing capabilities.

Khaitan & Co provided legal advice on all aspects of the transaction. The firm's mandate included transaction structuring, drafting and negotiation of project and commercial documentation, regulatory and compliance-related advice, and support for the execution of the transaction. The core deal team from Khaitan & Co was led by Partner Atman Desai and comprised Senior Associate Hetashri Khajanchi and Associate Vivan Jhaveri.
