Maharashtra CM Orders Action on Inclusion of 7 Villages into PCMC Limits

Mumbai/Pune, 7th July 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Maharashtra Urban Development Department to initiate immediate action on the long-pending demand to include seven villages—Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, Nere, Jambe, Sangavade, and Gahunje—into the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed the department to promptly submit a revised proposal for the same.

The development comes after BJP’s Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap submitted a formal memorandum to the CM and DyCM highlighting the urgent need for integrated and sustainable urban development in these rapidly urbanising areas. Shiv Sena’s Maval MP Shrirang Barne and several local leaders and IT professionals were also present during the meeting.

A resolution to include these villages was passed by the PCMC in 2018 and sent to the state government, but no decision has been made since. With the region experiencing rapid growth due to the presence of the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park and several industrial zones, the demand has gained fresh momentum.

Why the Demand?

- Rapid industrial and IT development has led to a population surge, with a floating population now estimated at over 2 lakh. - Basic civic services like roads, water supply, drainage, waste management, and healthcare are under severe strain. - Lack of coordination among multiple administrative bodies has stalled infrastructure projects.

Benefits of Inclusion

- Streamlined and sustainable urban planning under unified administration - Faster and coordinated decision-making - Improved transportation infrastructure - Better access to civic amenities - Enhanced support for industry and IT sector - Increase in government revenue

MLA Jagtap stated that the region’s development needs have outgrown the capacity of local gram panchayats. His office has been consistently following up with the state government, and the recent directives by the CM and DyCM have raised hopes that a final decision may be taken soon.

Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap said, “These villages have outgrown the capabilities of gram panchayats. To ensure basic services and planned urbanization, their inclusion in PCMC is now essential.”
