Maharashtra Man Arrested for Stealing Gold Ornaments Worth 14 Lakh in Vadodara
Vadodara: The Vadodara Crime Branch has arrested a man from Maharashtra for stealing gold ornaments worth over Rs 14 lakh from a passenger at the state transport (ST) bus depot. The accused, identified as Avinash Kale, committed the theft in December last year along with his wife, Vaishali, and another woman, Taramati Kale.
The trio, all residents of Maharashtra, traveled to Vadodara in a car with the specific intention of committing theft. Upon reaching the ST depot, they kept a watch on passengers boarding buses and targeted one commuter, stealing a purse containing gold ornaments. The police stated that crucial leads were obtained from CCTV footage, which showed the accused arriving and moving around the depot in a car.
Based on the vehicle details, the police traced the suspects to Maharashtra and sent a team to the Beed district, where they reside. Avinash was arrested, while Vaishali and Taramati are still on the run. During interrogation, Avinash revealed that the stolen ornaments were handed over to a local jeweller to make new jewellery. The jeweller melted the ornaments and converted them into a gold bar, which was subsequently seized by the police.
Avinash has a history of criminal activity, with three cases of loot and cheating registered against him in Maharashtra and Telangana. His wife, Vaishali, has two theft cases registered against her in Maharashtra. The police are currently working on apprehending the remaining accomplices and ensuring that justice is served.
This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and security measures at public transport hubs to prevent such crimes. The Vadodara Crime Branch has assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to enhance security and prevent similar incidents in the future.
