Maharashtra Seals 54 MoUs Worth Rs 15.70 Lakh Crore in Davos, Aiming for USD 1 Trillion Economy
Maharashtra, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has signed 54 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 15.70 lakh crore at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. These investments are expected to create approximately 15.95 lakh jobs, significantly boosting the state's economy and propelling it towards its goal of becoming the first USD 1 trillion economy in India.
Among the MoUs, the largest investment deal is with the Reliance Group, which has committed Rs 3.05 lakh crore. This investment spans a wide range of sectors including petrochemicals, polyester, renewable energy, bioenergy, green hydrogen, green chemicals, industrial sector development, retail, data centers, telecommunications, hospitality, and real estate. It is estimated that this single contract will create 3 lakh jobs, contributing significantly to the state's employment landscape.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking at the WEF, highlighted the historic nature of these agreements. 'History has been made at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Maharashtra, under my leadership, has signed a total of 54 MoUs worth Rs 15.70 lakh crore, which will create 15.95 lakh jobs,' he said. 'These investments will not only boost our economy but also contribute to balanced development across the state.'
The second-largest investment comes from Amazon, with a commitment of Rs 71,795 crore. This investment will focus on establishing data centers in Mumbai, creating 83,100 jobs. The MoUs signed over the past two days cover various regions of the state, ensuring that the benefits of these investments are distributed evenly.
The Industries Department has awarded contracts worth Rs 11.71 lakh crore, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded contracts worth Rs 3.44 lakh crore. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has awarded contracts worth Rs 55,200 crore. These investments are expected to drive industrial growth and infrastructure development in Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Fadnavis also met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair during the forum, discussing potential collaborations and opportunities for further investment in the state.
The Annual Meeting 2025 of the World Economic Forum is taking place in Davos-Klosters from January 20 to 24, 2025. This year's theme is 'Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.' The India Pavilion at the 55th WEF annual conference features eight states—Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal—each seeking investment opportunities from global business leaders. More than 350 governmental leaders, including 60 heads of state and government, are expected to participate. India has sent its largest-ever delegation to the event, comprising five union ministers and three state chief ministers, along with nearly 100 CEOs and leaders from government, civil society, and the arts.
Maharashtra's ambitious goal of becoming the first USD 1 trillion economy is supported by these significant investments and the state's strategic focus on balanced development. The MoUs signed at the WEF in Davos represent a major step towards achieving this vision, creating jobs, and fostering economic growth.
