Maharashtra's Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Pushes for Infrastructure to Ease Traffic Congestion

Thane: The Maharashtra government has prioritized resolving traffic congestion in Thane, with key infrastructure projects such as the Coastal Road and elevated corridors progressing steadily, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said.

He added that once completed, these projects would significantly improve traffic flow and offer residents a smoother and congestion-free commuting experience. Shinde spoke at the inauguration of the Road Safety Campaign–2026 ‘Carnival', organised by the Thane City Traffic Police on the occasion of Republic Day. The three-day carnival, held from January 26 to January 28 at the Police Sports Complex ground in Saket, aimed to create awareness about traffic rules and promote road safety through interactive and educational activities.

Addressing the gathering, the deputy CM stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations and highlighted the role of public participation in reducing road accidents. A traffic awareness calendar illustrated by students was released during the programme, and the students were felicitated for their contribution towards spreading awareness of road safety. Emphasising pedestrian safety, Shinde directed authorities to undertake a special drive to ensure that footpaths remain free from encroachments.

He said unobstructed footpaths are essential to prevent accidents and improve safety for pedestrians. Shinde also noted that intensified enforcement against drunken driving led to a decline in road accidents. He assured that Ghodbunder Road would be made completely pothole-free and said that closing unnecessary road cuts at several locations already helped ease traffic congestion. With major infrastructure works progressing, Thane residents are expected to benefit from improved connectivity and safer travel conditions in the near future.
