MHADA to Launch Mumbai Lottery for 3,000 Affordable Homes in March
The Mumbai Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to announce a housing lottery for approximately 3,000 homes once the Model Code of Conduct for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections ends. According to sources, the much-awaited lottery is likely to be declared in March 2026.
MHADA lotteries attract strong interest every year as they offer homes at prices significantly lower than prevailing market rates, particularly in Mumbai, where real estate costs remain among the highest in India. The scheme is considered a major opportunity for middle- and lower-income families seeking legal and affordable home ownership.
While the number of flats has been indicated, MHADA has not yet officially disclosed the locations of the homes under the Mumbai Board lottery. Applicants will need to wait for the formal notification for details regarding areas, pricing, eligibility criteria, and application timelines.
In addition to the Mumbai Board lottery, MHADA is also expected to announce a separate draw for around 4,000 homes under its Konkan Board, expanding options for buyers outside the city. Previous Konkan Board lotteries saw strong demand, though concerns were raised over incomplete infrastructure in some areas. MHADA has since stated that basic amenities and pricing issues have been addressed.
Over its 76-year history, MHADA has constructed and allotted nearly nine lakh affordable homes across Maharashtra. Several major redevelopment projects, including BDD Chawls, Motilal Nagar, GTB Nagar’s Punjabi Colony, Patra Chawl, Abhyudaya Nagar, Poonam Nagar, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar in Andheri, are currently at various stages of development.
Housing aspirants are advised to closely monitor MHADA’s official announcements for updates on the lottery process, locations, eligibility norms, and application dates once the election-related restrictions are lifted.
