Mulund Police Nab 30-Year-Old Habitual Offender with Concealed Country-Made Pistol
Mumbai, Nov 20: The Mulund police have apprehended a habitual offender, Rakesh Subhash Rajput, alias Matru, aged 30, who was found in possession of a country-made pistol. Rajput, who works as a driver, is currently under investigation to determine the source and intended use of the weapon.
According to the FIR, Assistant Police Inspector Dattatray Bansode of the Mulund police station received a tip-off from an informant. The informant revealed that Rajput, a resident of Rajkumar Chawl in Hanumanpada, Mulund Colony (West), was carrying a firearm. Acting on this information, a police team conducted a search of the area around 5:30 a.m. on November 19 and located Rajput at his residence.
When questioned about the weapon, Rajput allegedly refused to cooperate and responded evasively. When asked about the vehicle he was using, he claimed to have borrowed an Activa scooter (MH-03-CW-2622) from a friend. The police took him to the vehicle for inspection. During this inspection, Rajput attempted to throw away the key under the pretext of unlocking the scooter, which raised further suspicion.
With the help of a local resident, Anil Kalidas Tak, 39, the police recovered the discarded key. Upon opening the scooter’s storage compartment, officers discovered a country-made pistol and an iron knife. Both weapons were seized, and Rajput was taken into custody along with the vehicle.
Based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Hemant Tanaji Shedge, 40, of the Crime Detection Unit, Mulund police have registered a case against Rajput under Sections 3, 4, and 25 of the Arms Act, as well as Sections 37(1)(A) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Rajput has been accused of possessing a country-made firearm and knife without a license, thereby violating the weapon-ban order issued by the Mumbai police commissioner.
The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of the Mulund police to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of the community. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of Rajput's activities and the source of the weapons.
