Mumbai Real Estate Agent Caught on Camera Trying to Sexually Assault Minor Girls in Andheri East
A disturbing incident has unfolded in Mumbai’s Andheri East, where a 58-year-old real estate agent was caught on camera attempting to sexually exploit two minor girls. The girls, aged between six and seven, were playing outside their apartment building when the accused approached them. The incident, captured on a CCTV camera installed in the lobby, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised significant concerns about the safety of children in the area.
The accused, identified as Rajan Jadhav, 58, was caught in the act by one of the parents who came looking for their children. Shocked by the indecent behavior, the parent raised an alarm, which quickly alerted other parents in the building. As the residents gathered, they managed to apprehend the accused and immediately informed the police.
Upon arrival, the police took Jadhav into custody and booked him under relevant charges. They have also pressed charges against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a stringent law designed to protect minors from sexual abuse and exploitation.
The incident has sparked a wave of concern among residents, prompting calls for increased security measures and vigilance within the community. Parents are now more wary of allowing their children to play unsupervised, and there are discussions about installing more CCTV cameras and enhancing the overall safety infrastructure in the building.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court reinforced the importance of protecting minors by refusing to quash a rape case against a 29-year-old man. The court’s order, passed on September 26, 2025, and made public on September 30, 2025, was a clear message that the consent of a minor is not legally valid under the POCSO Act. The man had argued that he was in a consensual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and that they had only registered their marriage after she turned 18. However, the judges, Justices Urmila Joshi Phalke and Nandesh Deshpande, noted that under the POCSO Act, a minor cannot legally give consent to any sexual activity, making such relationships punishable by law regardless of any perceived mutual agreement.
This recent incident in Andheri East serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety of children, especially in urban areas. It underscores the need for stricter enforcement of laws, community vigilance, and comprehensive measures to prevent such heinous crimes. The MIDC police station, where the case was registered, has pledged to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in the area.
Residents are also being encouraged to report any suspicious behavior immediately and to work together to create a safer environment for their children. The incident has galvanized the community to take proactive steps, including organizing awareness programs and safety drills, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
