Mumbai Staircase Collapse in Chirabazar: 3 Residents Rescued Amid Heavy Rains
A staircase of a two-storeyed building in Chirabazar collapsed on Sunday night, trapping three residents on the second floor. The incident occurred in Building No 14/16, Prabhu Gully, near Marine Lines railway station. The mishap was reported at 7:43 PM, and the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police, and local ward office staff were immediately deployed to the scene.
The authorities received a call from a concerned citizen reporting that some people were stranded on the second floor. "As per the caller who reported the incident, some people were stranded on the second floor. Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police, and local ward office staff were deployed on the spot," the disaster management statement said.
Three residents, including a senior citizen, were successfully rescued by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. The rescued individuals were identified as Parag Nazik (40), Paresh Sosate (30), and Damayanti Rathod (70). According to information from GT Hospital at 10:20 PM, all three are in stable condition.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the building was in a dilapidated condition, declared unsafe for residing, or if the collapse was due to the incessant rains. The building's condition and the cause of the collapse are currently under investigation.
