Mumbai Traffic Police Introduces New Diversions in Worli to Ease Congestion
The Mumbai Traffic Police has introduced new traffic diversions at Shriram Mill Naka on Ganpatrao Kadam Road in Worli to alleviate the heavy congestion being experienced. This move comes after the opening of the Mumbai Coastal Road and the closure of the Elphinstone Bridge for vehicles, which have significantly impacted traffic flow in the area.
According to a traffic notification, vehicles taking right turns at Shriram Mill Naka often cause long traffic jams due to limited space for turning. To ensure smoother traffic movement, right turns from all four directions at the junction have been banned during the specified hours.
The diversions will be effective from 00:01 hrs to 23:55 hrs on November 1, 2025, and will remain in place until November 15. The specific traffic diversions include:
- Vehicles coming from S.S. Amritwar Marg towards Ganpatrao Kadam Road can take a left turn towards Yadav Chowk but cannot turn right towards Worli Naka or go straight to Dainik Shivner Marg. - Vehicles coming from Dainik Shivner Marg can take a left turn towards Worli Naka but cannot turn right towards Yadav Chowk or go straight to S.S. Amritwar Marg. - Vehicles coming from Worli Naka (northbound) can take a left turn to S.S. Mumbai's iconic Elphinstone Bridge was demolished last month to make way for a new, safer structure. The traffic police had previously announced the temporary closure of Sir Bhalchandra Marg in Dadar East for the Elphinstone Bridge reconstruction by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
A traffic police notification stated that the closure of the route was put in place to ease traffic congestion and ensure that emergency vehicles could enter and exit the area without obstruction. The road between Pritam Hotel and European Bungalow will remain completely closed to all vehicles during the construction period.
A detailed traffic notification was then issued by the police, which also arranged alternate routes for motorists to avoid congestion in the area. These measures are part of the ongoing efforts to improve traffic management and ensure smoother travel for residents and visitors in Mumbai.
