NAREDCO National Convention 2025 to Highlight Urban Planning and Regulatory Reforms
Chennai: NAREDCO Tamil Nadu recently hosted a curtain raiser event in Chennai to mark its participation in the upcoming 17th NAREDCO National Convention 2025, scheduled for 29–30 August in New Delhi. The event underscored the rapid urbanization and increasing infrastructure demand driven by tourism, while highlighting the need to balance modern expansion with environmental and cultural heritage preservation.
Against this backdrop, the curtain raiser discussed infrastructure progress in key cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, and emerging southern corridors. Shri Gnanasehar Devadason, President of NAREDCO Tamil Nadu, emphasized the state's potential for both residential and commercial development. He stated, “Tamil Nadu continues to be one of the most progressive real estate markets in the country, with Chennai, Coimbatore, and emerging corridors showing strong potential. Through this platform, we aim to accelerate approvals, encourage affordable housing, and support infrastructure-led growth to strengthen Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as future investment destinations.”
The discussions also covered strategies for rental housing, disaster-resilient construction, and sustainable materials—priorities for the state’s expanding urban regions. Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman of NAREDCO, highlighted the importance of sustainable urban planning in India’s economic strategy. He noted, “Urban planning is now central to India’s economic strategy. With construction contributing significantly to carbon emissions, the sector must shift from conventional methods to smart, sustainable models. This means adopting green materials, prioritising energy efficiency, and integrating smart infrastructure.”
Shri G Hari Babu, President of NAREDCO, emphasized that the convention would act as a policy accelerator. He stated, “We’re at a tipping point where growth, regulation, and innovation must align. The sector’s ability to attract global capital, improve last-mile delivery, and serve end-users depends on quickly resolving issues such as delays in approvals, inadequate rental frameworks, and high construction costs.”
The Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, will attend as Chief Guest, signaling strong central government support for the event. The 17th NAREDCO National Convention is widely recognized as the sector’s most influential public-private policy forum.
Key topics to be addressed at the convention include: – The evolution of RERA to improve compliance, transparency, and grievance redressal. – Affordable housing and rental models aligned with India’s Housing for All mission. – Capital formation and investment mechanisms for Tier 2 and Tier 3 city projects. – New-age construction technologies such as prefabrication, BIM, and green materials. – Redevelopment of ageing CBDs while integrating heritage and functionality. – Mobility and quality of life through transit-oriented development and multimodal transport. – Ease of doing business via single-window clearances, land record digitisation, and regulatory simplification.
With over 800 delegates expected, the 17th NAREDCO National Convention promises to be a springboard for consensus-building, solution design, and forward policy momentum in shaping the future of India’s real estate and urban planning landscape.
