Navi Mumbai Extends Property Tax Payment Hours to Weekends and Holidays
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced special arrangements to facilitate property tax payments by keeping its tax collection centres open on weekends and public holidays until the end of the current financial year.
The initiative has been introduced as part of the civic administration's ongoing property tax collection campaign across the city. With less than three weeks remaining for the close of the financial year, the municipal body has decided to extend operating days at tax collection counters to ensure that residents have adequate opportunities to clear their dues.
Under the arrangement, the NMMC headquarters and tax collection centres across eight ward offices will remain operational even on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays until the end of March. These centres will function between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm on such days.
Municipal officials stated that the decision was taken to provide greater convenience to taxpayers, particularly salaried individuals and residents who may find it difficult to visit collection centres during regular working hours.
Several public holidays fall within the remaining period of the financial year, including festivals such as Gudi Padwa, Ramzan Eid, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti. Despite these holidays, the civic body confirmed that tax collection centres will continue to remain open for citizens during the specified hours.
On regular working days, the property tax collection centres will operate between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm as per the standard schedule.
The civic administration has also highlighted multiple digital payment options available for residents to pay their property tax without visiting municipal offices. Property owners can make payments through the municipal corporation's official website as well as the My NMMC Majhi Navi Mumbai mobile application.
In addition, taxpayers can use a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot service to obtain information and complete payment transactions. The municipal corporation has also enabled QR code-based payments printed on tax bills, allowing residents to scan and pay using various UPI-enabled applications.
Other digital payment methods include debit cards, credit cards, net banking, RTGS, and NEFT transfers.
Municipal authorities have encouraged property owners to make use of these online facilities to complete their tax payments conveniently from their homes.
Alongside the extended payment window, the municipal corporation is also implementing the Abhay scheme to encourage the clearance of pending property tax dues. Under this initiative, property owners who clear their outstanding tax liabilities in a single payment before the end of March will receive a 50 per cent concession on the penalty charged for delayed payments.
The civic administration has urged property owners with outstanding dues to take advantage of the scheme within the remaining period and complete their payments before the financial year concludes.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has appealed to residents to utilise the available facilities and ensure timely payment of property tax, which remains a key source of revenue for the municipal corporation's civic and infrastructure services.
