Navi Mumbai: Man Granted Anticipatory Bail in Wife's Suicide Abetment Case

Navi Mumbai: The Panvel sessions court in Navi Mumbai granted anticipatory bail to a man accused in a suicide abetment case following the death of his 26-year-old wife on December 7. The initial complaint was lodged by the victim's brother, Tushar Patil.

The bail was granted after Tushar Patil submitted a ‘no objection’ affidavit before the court, stated investigating officer, API Sarika Zanjurne. API Zanjurne said, “We had objected to the anticipatory bail application of the accused Suraj Naik, the husband of deceased Monali Naik, in the FIR of suicide abetment. However, the complainant, Monali's brother Tushar Patil, submitted an affidavit before the Panvel sessions court stating that he has no objection to granting anticipatory bail to the accused.

Thereafter, the Panvel court granted him anticipatory bail.”

According to the FIR, Tushar Patil had stated that his sister Monali was married to Suraj Naik in May 2018. They had a daughter together. Monali was allegedly subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband Suraj because she was unable to conceive a boy. Additionally, Monali had objected to Suraj frequenting ladies bars, which further annoyed him.

The case has garnered significant attention in Navi Mumbai, highlighting the ongoing issues of domestic violence and the legal measures in place to protect victims. The court's decision to grant anticipatory bail, despite the initial objections from the police, underscores the importance of the complainant's willingness to forgo further legal action.
