NCB Freezes Assets Worth Rs 41.64 Lakh Linked to Navi Mumbai Drug Kingpin
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has taken significant action against Navin Gurunath Chichkar, a well-known drug trafficker based in Navi Mumbai. The bureau has seized assets valued at Rs 41.64 lakh, which are believed to be linked to his involvement in an inter-state and international narcotics syndicate. According to a release from the NCB, the office of the Competent Authority and Administrator, under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has confirmed the freezing order issued by the NCB Mumbai concerning the movable and immovable properties of the drug kingpin.
The seized assets include various types of drugs such as Cocaine, LSD, and Ganja, which were being sold in the areas of Belapur and Nerul in Navi Mumbai. The NCB Mumbai Zonal Unit conducted operations on January 27 and 28, 2001, based on specific intelligence, intercepting three accused individuals and seizing the contraband in commercial quantities.
Subsequent investigations identified Navin Gurunath Chichkar, a resident of CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, as the kingpin of the drug syndicate. An intensive financial probe was launched to trace the assets acquired through illicit drug sales. This investigation led to the identification of a bank account in City Bank and a luxury vehicle, a Mini Cooper, which were frozen in November 2025. The total value of the frozen assets is Rs 41,64,701, and the Competent Authority confirmed this order in December 2025.
Navin Chichkar is a habitual offender and a notorious drug trafficker in the Belapur and Nerul areas of Navi Mumbai. He has five NDPS cases registered against him, with three cases filed by the NCB Mumbai, one by the Nerul Police Station, and one by Customs. Chichkar was arrested by the NCB Mumbai after a prolonged process of tracing and continuous efforts. He is currently in judicial custody under the mentioned cases.
The NCB's action is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the financial networks supporting drug trafficking and to bring perpetrators to justice. This move is expected to significantly disrupt the operations of the drug syndicate and send a strong message to other drug traffickers.
