NHAI Simplifies KYV Process for FASTags: Easier Verification for Vehicle Owners
NEW DELHI: A day after the Times of India (TOI) reported on the problems faced by vehicle owners to complete the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTags, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) simplified the process on Thursday. The revised guidelines aim to ensure that FASTag services are not discontinued for non-compliant vehicles and that users get sufficient opportunities to complete the KYV process.
As per the new guidelines, side photographs of cars, jeeps, or vans will no longer be required. Only a front picture showing the number plate and FASTag will need to be uploaded. Additionally, provisions will be made to automatically fetch RC details from the Vahan database when the user enters the vehicle, chassis, or mobile number. This will significantly reduce the manual effort required for KYV verification.
If multiple vehicles are registered against a single mobile number, the user will be able to select the vehicle for which they wish to complete KYV. This feature will make the process more convenient for users who own multiple vehicles.
IHMCL, the wing of NHAI dealing with tolling and the FASTag system, has revised the guidelines to make the process simpler. The government stated that to maintain the continuity of services, FASTags issued before the KYV policy (issued on June 20, 2024) will remain active unless complaints are received for loose tags or misuse.
In addition, issuer banks will send SMS reminders to users to complete KYV. If a user faces difficulties in uploading documents, the issuing bank will proactively contact customers and assist them before disconnection. Officials also mentioned that customers can lodge complaints or raise queries on the NH helpline number 1033.
The TOI report published on Wednesday highlighted how vehicle owners were facing difficulty in uploading multiple documents online for verification of the FASTag linked to their vehicles. There have been instances where vehicle owners were informed about blocked FASTags due to incomplete KYV when their vehicles were at the toll gates. This new initiative by NHAI aims to address these issues and ensure a smoother and more efficient KYV process for all FASTag users.
