Noida Court Grants Bail to Real Estate Firm Employees in Techie Death Case

A Noida court has granted bail to two employees of a real estate firm in the case linked to the death of a 27-year-old software engineer who drowned after his car fell into a waterlogged pit. The court noted that the offense is bailable and directed the accused to fully cooperate with the investigation.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate court at Surajpur on Friday granted bail to Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal, employees of Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited. They were arrested in a case related to the drowning of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in a water-filled pit near a construction site in Sector 150, Noida.

The accused told the court that they had not committed any offense and claimed that they were falsely implicated in the case. They requested the court to release them on bail. Advocate Manoj Bhati, appearing on behalf of the accused, said that the court granted bail because the offense mentioned in the case is bailable. He said the court released both accused on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 each and imposed several conditions. The court also directed them to 'fully cooperate with the investigation', the advocate said.

The court further ordered that the accused shall not leave the country without prior permission of the court and must take advance approval if they plan any foreign travel. The court also directed the accused not to interfere with or damage prosecution evidence during the investigation, Bhati added.

The case is related to the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who died after his car fell into a waterlogged pit near a construction site on the intervening night of January 16 and 17. The incident led to widespread public anger, protests by local residents, and serious allegations of negligence against real estate developers and the Noida Authority.

Earlier, the police arrested Abhay Kumar, director of MZ Wiztown Planners, along with two associates of Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited, Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal, in connection with the incident. According to a lawyer, Abhay Kumar is currently in judicial custody.

Police have registered FIRs under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing death by negligence. In addition, a separate case has been registered against officials of the two companies for alleged violations of environmental norms. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government is also investigating the matter.
