Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Alandi Municipal Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U) 2.0. This partnership is part of the ministry of housing and urban affairs' ‘Swachh Shehar Jodi' initiative, which connects mentor cities with proven sanitation records to mentee cities for accelerated progress.
Over 100 days, PCMC, recognized as one of India's Super Swachh Cities, will extend guidance to Alandi in eight priority areas. These areas include visible cleanliness, waste collection and segregation, solid waste processing, sanitation facilities, and citizen participation. PCMC will share its expertise and training, while Alandi will implement the action plans.
The collaboration is expected to significantly improve cleanliness standards and strengthen Alandi's performance in the Swachh Survekshan rankings by 2026. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step in building cleaner, healthier, and more accountable cities.
The Swachh Shehar Jodi initiative aims to foster a spirit of competition and collaboration among cities to achieve better sanitation outcomes. Waste Collection and Segregation : Implementing efficient systems for collecting and segregating waste at the source. 3. Solid Waste Processing : Developing and enhancing facilities for processing and disposing of solid waste. 4. Sanitation Facilities : Improving public toilet facilities and ensuring their maintenance. 5. Citizen Participation : Engaging the community in cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns. 6.
