Pimpri-Chinchwad Police PSI Caught in Massive Bribery Trap by ACB

Pimpri, 3rd November 2025: A massive corruption scandal has rattled the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Department after the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) took cognizance of a Rs 2-crore bribery case involving a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

The accused officer, PSI Pramod Chintamani, was caught red-handed by the Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 46.50 lakh, believed to be the first installment of a Rs 2-crore demand.

The money was reportedly solicited to “manage” senior officials and influence bail proceedings for an accused in a Rs 4-crore financial fraud case registered at Bavdhan police station. The lawyer representing the accused in the fraud case has filed a complaint with the ACB. During discussions about the bribe amount, Chintamani allegedly told the lawyer, “You give Rs 1 crore to me and Rs 1 crore to my senior. Do not discuss this matter with anyone else. I will also handle the CP and DCP if the payment was made.”

Subsequently, the ACB laid a trap with Rs 1.5 lakh in genuine currency notes and Rs 45 lakh in dummy notes. Chintamani was apprehended in Rasta Peth, where he reportedly attempted to collect the bribe. The PSI was caught in the act as he lifted the bag containing the marked cash while boarding an auto-rickshaw near Untadiya Maruti Temple.

During interrogation, Chintamani allegedly mentioned the names of senior police officials and referred to conversations that took place inside Inspector Sawant’s cabin. Although Sawant reportedly did not directly demand the bribe, his alleged involvement is under scrutiny.

Officials confirmed that the case has placed the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Department under the scanner, with both ACB teams coordinating to ensure a thorough, impartial investigation. The incident has raised serious questions about the integrity of the local law enforcement and the need for stringent measures to curb corruption within the ranks.
