PMC Warns Against Fake Senior Citizen Property Tax Rebate Message
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern warning to senior citizens, urging them not to believe a message circulating on social media that claims the corporation is offering a 30% flat discount on property tax to the elderly. Head of PMC's property tax department, Ravi Pawar, stated, 'The administration is not offering any special discount to anybody. We have received numerous calls from senior citizens inquiring about the rebate, which has led to confusion within the tax collection department.'
The message alleged that the state government had issued a circular approving the discount. However, officials have verified the message and confirmed it to be fake. The tax collection department has emphasized the importance of citizens always contacting their local ward office or checking the official municipal website for accurate information.
PMC officials also clarified that discounts are indeed available on property tax payments made before May 31. These discounts are designed to encourage early payments and reward diligent citizens. Additionally, concessions are offered to those who adopt green building norms, such as rainwater harvesting, solar power, and vermicompost.
The PMC is committed to providing transparent and accurate information to its residents. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and verify any such claims through official channels to avoid falling victim to misleading information.
