Pune Accelerates Plans for Growth Hub: Traffic and Economic Development in Focus
Pune: Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has directed officials to expedite surveys to ensure the early preparation of the draft macro-economic plan for the proposed 'Pune Growth Hub'. During a review meeting of the 'Pune Metropolitan Growth Hub' at the Council Hall, Pulkundwar emphasized the importance of a comprehensive plan based on inputs from government departments, agencies, and representatives from the private and industrial sectors.
He stated, 'The Pune Metropolitan Region was included in Niti Aayog's ‘Growth Hub' initiative to position the region prominently in the global economy.' Pulkundwar further instructed all agencies to speed up their work, ensuring that the draft macro-economic development plan is prepared and submitted to the state government promptly. Institutions such as the ISEG Foundation and McKinsey & Company have been appointed to collate the necessary inputs.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Yogesh Mhase (via video conference), and other officials attended the meeting.
In another significant move, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to identify traffic congestion hotspots and implement targeted projects for traffic regulation. This directive was issued during the review meeting of the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) committee. Discussions were held on traffic management measures at key locations such as Vishrantwadi, Mundhwa Chowk, Market Yard to Seven Loves Chowk, Golibar Maidan, Ghorpadi Bridge, and the Magarpatta area.
The aim is to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, which has been a persistent issue in these areas. By addressing these choke points, the authorities hope to enhance the overall quality of life for residents and commuters in Pune.
