Reported by Varad Bhatkhande
Mumbai/Pune, 4th July 2025: Maval MLA Sunil Shelke, from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), made a startling revelation during the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Friday, stating that his life is under serious threat. Shelke claimed that individuals previously arrested for plotting his murder have now been released on bail and are roaming free, raising grave concerns about his safety.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, responded to the allegation by assuring that appropriate action would be taken. He announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to probe the matter thoroughly.
Back in 2023, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police had arrested five individuals who were allegedly planning to avenge the murder of Kishore Aware, a case in which Shelke and his brother were suspected of involvement. The police had seized pistols, cartridges, and other weapons from the accused, reportedly sourced from Madhya Pradesh. These accused, all of whom have a criminal history, were later granted bail and are now allegedly seen in the Maval area despite being externed from the region.
Speaking in the Assembly, Shelke said, “The accused arrested by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police in 2023 have been granted bail and are roaming openly in Pune district and Maval taluka despite being externed. Someone paid lakhs of rupees to get them bail. Who is behind this? The Police and the Home Department must investigate.”
Meanwhile, a senior Pimpri-Chinchwad Police official stated, “We have not yet received any official orders from the Home Ministry, but we will look into the matter.”
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is a prominent political party in Maharashtra, known for its progressive and secular policies. Maval is a taluka in the Pune district of Maharashtra, known for its historical and cultural significance. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have been instrumental in maintaining law and order in the region, and their response to this situation will be closely monitored by the local community and political leaders.
