Pune Railway Infrastructure Boost: Completion of Upgrades at Chinchwad, Miraj, and Saswad Road Goods Sheds
Pune, 20th March 2026: The railway infrastructure in Pune has received a major boost with the completion of modernization projects at the goods sheds in Chinchwad, Miraj, and Saswad Road. These projects, sanctioned on March 4, 2024, have reached 100% physical completion as of February 28, 2026, with a total investment of ₹25.07 crore.
The largest of the three, the Chinchwad goods shed project, was completed at a cost of ₹11.64 crore. The Letter of Award was issued on April 7, 2025, and the work included a comprehensive renovation of the facility. The project involved the renovation of CGS and merchant rooms, the construction of a compound wall, and the installation of entry and exit gates.
Technical upgrades at Chinchwad included the shifting of three porta cabins, the establishment of FOIS (Fibre Optic In-Service) connectivity, and the installation of high-mast lighting. Civil works encompassed the removal of middle fencing, the concreting of the circulating area, and the development of an automobile loading pathway using paver blocks.
At Miraj, the goods shed modernization project was completed at a cost of ₹10.21 crore. The project was awarded on June 18, 2024, and involved significant improvements to the facility. The platform length was extended by 150 metres, and the existing TP2 platform was dismantled. Additional works included the construction of a new approach road, a merchant room, a covered shed, and the renovation of the labour rest room. Electrical infrastructure was enhanced with the commissioning of four high-mast lights, and the circulating area at TP2 and a dedicated drinking water facility were also developed.
The Saswad Road goods shed project, sanctioned at ₹3.22 crore, was completed following the Letter of Award issued on July 4, 2024. The project included the construction of a 190-metre approach road and a boundary wall. Site-level improvements at Saswad Road included the installation and commissioning of three high-mast lights, the concreting of the circulating area, and the construction of a security gate at the FSG end. Underground and overhead water tanks were also developed as part of the project.
These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and capacity of the goods sheds, facilitating smoother operations and better service for the railway users in the region. The completion of these projects marks a crucial step in the modernization of railway infrastructure, contributing to the overall development of Pune and the surrounding areas.
