Pune: Retired Wing Commander's Home Burgled, Police Launch Investigation
The Pune City police have launched a probe after two burglars broke into the house of a 78-year-old retired Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Wanawadi and robbed gold and diamond jewelry along with cash, totaling over Rs 59 lakh.
An FIR was registered by the veteran who retired from the IAF in 1992 and has since settled in Pune’s Wanawadi area. He currently runs a real estate business while his 50-year-old son runs a business in the automobile sector.
According to the FIR, the incident took place between 2:30 AM and 3:15 AM on Tuesday. At the time, the complainant and his wife were asleep in their bedroom downstairs, while his son and daughter-in-law were in the bedroom on the first floor.
The complainant and his wife woke up after two unidentified masked men entered their bedroom. The duo threatened and broke open the cupboard in the bedroom with the help of a screwdriver. They burgled gold, diamond, and precious stone ornaments and cell phones of the complainant and his wife worth Rs 51.74 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh in cash, all totaling to Rs 59.24 lakh. The duo fled after threatening the elderly couple not to raise an alarm.
After a while, the complainant and his wife came to the drawing room and found that the lock of a door of the drawing room had been broken. Other family members then came down and the police were informed. “We have checked the CCTV cameras on the premises and surrounding area. Two masked suspects have been captured. We have launched a probe based on some clues and are probing all the possible angles,” said an officer who is part of the investigation.
The police are now working to identify and apprehend the suspects. They are also seeking help from the local community and reviewing footage from nearby security cameras to gather more evidence. The retired Wing Commander and his family are cooperating fully with the investigation, hoping for a swift resolution to the case.
