Pune’s Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Replica Immersed in Phuket Sea
For the first time, a replica of the Dagdusheth Ganpati festival idol immersion ceremony was conducted in the sea in Thailand’s Phuket. This remarkable event followed the opening of a replica of Pune's Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple in Phuket, thanks to the efforts of Thai businesswoman Papa Son Mipa.
The 50-foot replica temple, estimated to cost Rs 9 crore, was completed by Papa Son Mipa of Phuket 9 Real Estate Company Limited. This project not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of Pune but also aims to provide a spiritual experience to devotees in Thailand.
The new temple, named Lord Shreemant Ganpati Bappa Temple, is situated opposite Rawai Beach on the southernmost tip of Phuket Island. It offers a glimpse of the 130-year-old temple in Pune and is expected to attract both local and international devotees.
The replica project took 15 months to complete. “The original idol’s replica was shipped to Phuket on October 22,” said Mahesh Suryawanshi, treasurer of the Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust. The temple structure also includes smaller deities, such as statues of Siddhi Mata and Buddhi Mata, and a panchadhatu idol, mirroring its Pune counterpart.
The immersion ceremony in the Phuket sea was a significant event, symbolizing the unity and cultural exchange between India and Thailand. It highlights the growing influence of Indian culture and spirituality in Southeast Asia and strengthens the bonds between the two nations.
Papa Son Mipa, the driving force behind this project, expressed her joy and satisfaction with the completion of the temple. “We are thrilled to bring a piece of Pune’s rich heritage to Phuket. This temple will serve as a beacon of spirituality and a symbol of our commitment to cultural preservation,” she said.
The Shreemant Dagdusheth Ganpati Bappa Temple in Phuket is expected to become a popular pilgrimage site, attracting visitors from around the world. It will not only serve as a place of worship but also as a cultural and educational center, promoting the values and traditions of Indian spirituality.
The completion of this project is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the team involved, including local artisans, engineers, and the Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust. The temple’s presence in Phuket is a proud moment for both the Indian and Thai communities, marking a significant step in cultural diplomacy and mutual respect.
As the temple opens its doors to the public, it is poised to become a landmark in Phuket, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indian culture and spirituality among the local population and visitors alike.
