Simon Property Group Elevates Eli Simon to COO and Names New Co-Presidents
The Simon Property Group, a prominent real estate investment trust that owns and operates premier shopping, dining, entertainment, and mixed-use destinations across North America, Europe, and Asia, has announced a significant leadership change. Eli Simon has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Eli Simon will work closely with David Simon, the company's chairman, CEO, and president, on all aspects of Simon's diverse businesses. This includes overseeing property performance, new development projects, strategic investments, and the company's brand strategy. Eli joined Simon Property Group in 2019, where he initially led the company's investment strategy for both real estate and non-real estate investments. His responsibilities encompassed new business sourcing, strategic corporate investments, and the execution of various real estate transactions. Most recently, he held the position of executive vice president, chief investment officer, and director.
Prior to joining Simon Property Group, Eli Simon was the principal and head of North American Lodging at Och-Ziff Capital Management and Och-Ziff Real Estate. In this role, he managed all lodging-related investments, including asset and portfolio acquisitions, operating company investments, and lending opportunities.
In addition to Eli Simon's promotion, Simon Property Group has also announced the appointment of Jonathan Murphy and Eric Sadi as co-presidents of North American Real Estate. These two executives will oversee Simon's North American real estate portfolio, which includes the company's Malls, Mills, and Premium Outlets platforms. They will be responsible for asset management and leasing strategies, ensuring the continued success and growth of these properties.
Murphy and Sadi have been with Simon Property Group for over a decade, with Murphy joining in 2010 and Sadi in 2006. Both have held various roles within the company, contributing significantly to its success. Since 2020, they have been co-presidents of Simon’s Mall Platform, where they managed the revenue stream, occupancy, and merchandise mix for the company’s malls.
David Simon, in a statement, expressed his confidence in these leadership appointments: 'One of the hallmarks of Simon's success is the strength and depth of our management team. As we work to further advance our growth, I am pleased with these leadership appointments. Our culture of innovation will continue to be a strategic asset for us.'
Larry Glasscock, the lead independent director, added: 'These executive appointments position Simon to continue to deliver long-standing industry-leading results by delivering an exceptional product and environment for our consumers and retailers.'
These leadership changes reflect Simon Property Group's commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the real estate market and ensuring the continued success of its diverse portfolio of properties.
