State Government Approves 842.85 Crore Plan to Upgrade Six STPs in Pune
Pune: The state government has issued administrative approval for a plan worth Rs 842.85 crore to upgrade six existing sewage treatment plants (STPs) of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The plants are located at Bhairoba Nala, Tanajiwadi, Bopodi, Erandwane, Vitthalwadi, and near Naidu Hospital. PMC has already initiated the work on the upgradation of these six plants, which is expected to increase their total capacity to 566 MLD from the existing 451 MLD.
The administration is introducing new technology at the STPs as per the parameters set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This move is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the sewage treatment process, ensuring that the treated water meets the required environmental standards. The tendering process for the project is currently underway, according to officials.
The upgrade of these STPs is a significant step towards improving the environmental health of Pune. The city has been grappling with issues related to water pollution and waste management, and this initiative is expected to alleviate some of these problems. The new technology will not only increase the capacity of the plants but also improve the quality of the treated water, making it safer for reuse and discharge into natural water bodies.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is one of the largest municipal corporations in India, responsible for providing essential services to the residents of Pune. The corporation has been working diligently to improve the city's infrastructure, and the upgrade of the STPs is a crucial part of this effort. The project is expected to be completed within the next few years, bringing long-term benefits to the city and its residents.
Residents of Pune have expressed their support for the project, hoping that it will lead to a cleaner and more sustainable environment. The state government's approval is a positive sign, and the PMC is committed to ensuring that the project is executed efficiently and effectively. The successful completion of this initiative will not only benefit the residents of Pune but also serve as a model for other cities in India facing similar challenges in water and waste management.
