Thane Completes Audit of Enemy Properties in Mira Bhayandar: Activists Welcome Move

Mira Bhayandar: The Thane collector has recently concluded the audit of enemy properties in Mira Bhayandar, marking a significant step towards addressing long-standing issues. Activists have applauded this move, as they believe it will help prevent the illegal acquisition of these properties.

We have received notification and intimation from the Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI) for enemy properties in the Thane region, which includes Mira Bhayandar, said a senior official from the Thane collector's office. The official confirmed that a comprehensive list has been compiled, and an audit has been conducted. Field reports have been shared with CEPI, and discussions are ongoing with the government to find a solution for third-party interests created on enemy properties.

Mira Bhayandar has a few plots marked as enemy property, and land grabbing has been a persistent issue since 2007, alleged Kalpesh Shah. Kalpesh, along with his father Raju Shah, have faced threats while exposing these illegal activities. Raju Shah received a threat call from Pakistan in February this year, and Kalpesh followed suit a couple of months later in April. Now, the MBMC town planning department has started requiring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the CEPI department for any revised building permissions, as per a letter sent by the MBMC in March 2024 to a developer.

Third-party interests have been created on enemy properties within the MBMC jurisdiction, and if the government does not take action, the hard-earned money of buyers is at risk, Kalpesh concluded. The audit and subsequent measures are crucial steps in ensuring transparency and protecting the rights of both the government and potential buyers.
