Thane: FIR Registered After Iron Rod from Metro Site Injures Man in Autorickshaw
An iron rod fell from a metro construction site in Bhiwandi, Thane, on Tuesday, causing serious injuries to a man riding in an autorickshaw. The incident occurred around 2 pm, where the first phase of the Thane-Bhiwandi Metro Line is under construction, according to an official. The rod, measuring 7 to 8 feet long, fell from the overhead metro structure and struck the autorickshaw below.
The passenger, identified as Sonuali Shaikh, was severely injured and rushed to a hospital. Surgeons conducted a five-hour operation to remove the iron rod from his head. The police have registered a case under section 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS against unidentified persons. Further investigation is currently underway.
In a separate incident, the police in Mumbai arrested a real estate agent named Sagar Heeralal Rajbhar (37) from Kalyan in the adjoining Thane district. The arrest was made near the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Kalina in Santacruz (East). The police seized a pistol and two 'live' cartridges from him. Crime Branch sleuths laid a trap after receiving a tip-off that a man was coming to Hans Bhugra Road to deliver a firearm and cartridges. During interrogation, it was revealed that Rajbhar worked as a real estate agent, but the source of the firearm and his intended recipient are still under investigation. The accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Arms Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Thane-Bhiwandi Metro Line is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the region. The accident highlights the need for stringent safety measures during construction to prevent such incidents. Authorities have promised a thorough investigation to identify the responsible parties and ensure such accidents do not occur in the future.
The construction of the metro line is expected to bring numerous benefits to the residents of Thane and Bhiwandi, including reduced travel time and improved public transportation. However, the incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks involved in large-scale construction projects and the importance of adhering to safety protocols.
