Tragic Accident on Pune-Mumbai Expressway Claims Three Lives, Including a Noted Builder
A tragic accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Khopoli exit has left three people dead and five injured. The incident occurred around 10:55 AM on Wednesday when a container truck lost control and hit at least four vehicles, causing severe damage and multiple casualties.
Police have identified the deceased as Shrikant Anant Jadhav (63), a well-known builder and real estate developer from Girija Shankar Vihar in Pune, along with his two employees, Ambadas Damu Petare and Pramosh Shankar Pawar. All three were traveling in an Innova that was crushed when the container toppled onto it.
The injured, identified as Navnath Vilas Bhujbal (32) from Talegaon Dhamdhere, Akashau Mahadev Gaikwad (31) from Shikrapur, Bhanudas Sanjay Gaikwad (27) from Chakan, and Swapnil Namdeo Bhujbal (36) from Talegaon Dhamdhere, were all from Pune district. The driver of the container, Avadhesh Radheshyam Yadav (37), a native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, also sustained injuries in the accident and has been detained by the police.
Senior Inspector Sachin Hire, in-charge of Khopoli police station, stated, “Initial investigations suggest that the container was moving at a high speed on a patch with a slope. The reckless driving of the heavy vehicle led to it hitting at least four vehicles, including three cars and a cement bulker truck. This resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to five others, including the driver of the container.”
Assistant Inspector Manoj Thakre added, “The deceased include a Pune-based builder and his two employees. The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to the vehicles involved.”
Deputy Superintendent of Police for Khalapur division, Vishal Nehul, noted, “After the accident, the container and damaged vehicles were removed from the Expressway with the help of other agencies, and traffic was streamlined to prevent further congestion and ensure safety.”
The incident has raised concerns about road safety on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better maintenance of the road infrastructure. The police have registered an FIR based on the complaint of one of the injured, Swapnil Bhujbal, and the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
The families of the deceased and the injured are receiving support from local authorities, and efforts are being made to provide medical assistance and compensation to the victims. The community in Pune has been deeply affected by the loss of a respected builder and his colleagues, and condolences have been pouring in from various quarters.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and the need for continuous vigilance on busy highways to prevent such accidents in the future.
