Two Realtors Arrested for Abducting and Beating Another Over Rs 35,000 Debt in Pune
Hadapsar police in Pune arrested two real estate agents on charges of abducting and beating another estate agent over a debt of Rs 35,000. The incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at Manjari village. The victim, a 28-year-old realtor from Alandi Devachi near Hadapsar, filed a complaint with the police after the two accused and their two accomplices released him.
The victim and the arrested individuals have known each other for a few years due to their involvement in the same real estate business in the Hadapsar and adjoining areas. Senior Inspector Sanjay Mogale of Hadapsar police told the media, 'We arrested two real estate agents—one 35 years old and another 36 years old—both residents of Manjari.'
A few months ago, the victim borrowed Rs 35,000 from the accused due to financial difficulties. However, he failed to repay the money as his financial constraints continued. 'The two real estate agents met the victim at Manjari village and took him to an isolated spot behind an educational institute in a car. They stopped the car at this spot and pulled out the victim. They kicked and punched him, demanding their money. The victim sustained injuries to his back, face, and head,' Mogale said.
Police are currently searching for the two accomplices who were involved in the incident. The victim has been provided medical attention, and the police are investigating the case to bring all the perpetrators to justice. The incident highlights the increasing instances of violent debt recovery methods in the real estate sector, which often go unreported due to fear of retaliation.
In Pune, real estate agents often operate in a loosely regulated environment, leading to conflicts and violent incidents. The police are working to strengthen regulations and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future. The victim's case is being closely monitored by the local authorities, and efforts are being made to provide him with the necessary support and protection.
The real estate sector in Pune is growing rapidly, but it also faces numerous challenges, including unregulated practices and violent debt recovery methods. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for stricter regulations and better enforcement to protect individuals involved in the sector.
