MahaRERA stands for Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority. It is a regulatory body established under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA) to protect the interests of home buyers and ensure transparency and accountability in the real estate sector.
The significant number of pending cases at MahaRERA is due to a lack of resources and manpower, as well as the complex nature of real estate disputes. This has led to a slow and cumbersome process, resulting in prolonged delays and frustration for home buyers.
The key issues facing MahaRERA include a limited number of adjudicating officers, the complex nature of real estate disputes, and the lack of specialized knowledge and expertise to handle cases efficiently.
MahaRERA has initiated steps such as the introduction of an online complaint portal and the establishment of a helpdesk for home buyers. However, these are considered temporary fixes and do not address the root causes of the problem.
To improve MahaRERA's operations, a comprehensive overhaul is needed. This includes increasing the number of adjudicating officers, providing them with necessary training and resources, implementing an integrated case management system, and revising the RERA Act to empower MahaRERA with more authority to enforce regulations.

Technical glitches have affected online registration of leave and licence agreements across Maharashtra, causing delays and inconvenience to citizens and real estate agents alike.
