The CCI approval is significant because it is a mandatory step required by the Supreme Court for entities submitting resolution plans under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). This approval allows Adani Group to proceed with its resolution plan, should it win the ongoing insolvency proceedings.
Jaiprakash Associates has significant real estate projects such as Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida, Jaypee Greens Wishtown in Noida, and the Jaypee International Sports City. It also owns commercial/industrial office spaces in Delhi-NCR and operates a hotel division with properties in Delhi-NCR, Mussoorie, and Agra.
Other bidders for Jaiprakash Associates include Dalmia Bharat, Vedanta Group, Jindal Power, and PNC Infratech. These companies have also approached the CCI seeking approval to submit their respective resolution plans to the Committee of Creditors (CoC) of JAL.
Creditors are claiming a staggering ₹57,185 crore against Jaiprakash Associates. The National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) leads the list of claimants after acquiring the stressed JAL loans from a consortium of lenders headed by the State Bank of India.
Jaiprakash Associates was admitted into the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) through an order by the National Company Law Tribunal, Allahabad Bench, dated June 3, 2024. The Committee of Creditors (CoC) is currently reviewing the resolution plans received, and the voting process will take place in due course.
