Asian Paints' shares declined by nearly 2% following an investigation ordered by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) into allegations of market dominance abuse.
The CCI ordered an investigation into Asian Paints for allegedly abusing its dominant position in the decorative paints market, as per a complaint filed by Grasim Industries.
The Competition Act, 2002, prohibits the abuse of dominant position in the market. This includes practices that restrain competition or impose unfair conditions on competitors.
Grasim Industries filed a complaint with the CCI, accusing Asian Paints of engaging in exclusionary practices aimed at stifling its entry and growth in the Indian decorative paints segment.
The Director General has been directed by the CCI to conduct an investigation and submit a report within 90 days.
