Assam housing and urban affairs minister Kaushik Rai met representatives of real estate industry bodies at the Assam Secretariat in Guwahati on October 28 to discuss the state's building rules and regulatory framework. The meeting aimed to address industry concerns and streamline approval processes for residential and commercial projects.
Key Discussion Points
The discussions focused on simplifying building by-laws, expediting plan approvals, and ensuring transparency in the implementation of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA). Industry representatives also raised issues related to land conversion, infrastructure charges, and the need for a single-window clearance system.
Industry Expectations
Real estate developers urged the minister to introduce more flexible norms for high-rise constructions and green buildings. They also sought clarity on the new building rules that are expected to be notified soon. The minister assured the delegation that the government would consider their suggestions while finalising the policy framework.
The meeting is seen as a positive step towards fostering a collaborative environment between the state government and the real estate sector. Similar consultations are expected to be held in other states, including Maharashtra, where developers are keen on faster approvals and better regulatory clarity.
