Bengaluru Namma Metro Expansion: BMRCL Submits Feasibility Report for Tumakuru Extension
Real Estate News:The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has submitted the feasibility report for extending Namma Metro services to Tumakuru. This significant move aims to enhance connectivity between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, providing convenience to thousands of daily commuters. The report has been handed over to the state government, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be forwarded to the central government after receiving approval from the state cabinet. The ambitious project is expected to be constructed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, ensuring efficient and timely execution.

The proposed metro line will pass through several key elevated stations, including Nelamangala, Weaver’s Colony, Budihal, T Begur, Sompura Industrial Area, Dobbspet, Kyathsandra, Tumakuru bus stand, TUDA Layout, and Sira Gate. These stations will connect to Madavara, the last station on the Green Line. Apart from serving the regular commuters, the metro line is anticipated to significantly benefit IT employees residing in these areas by reducing travel time and alleviating traffic congestion.

However, the project has faced some criticism. Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan has expressed concerns, stating that the project is primarily aimed at boosting real estate prices rather than improving connectivity. He noted that the cost of constructing the metro line (Rs 350 crore per km) is much higher compared to the suburban rail (Rs 100-150 crore per km). Mohan argued that the project would primarily benefit real estate businesses, with estimated gains of Rs 1,000 crore. He further stated that the state government might prioritize the metro project over the suburban rail, which could have broader connectivity benefits.

Despite the criticism, the BMRCL remains committed to the project, emphasizing its potential to transform public transportation in the region. The construction work is expected to commence once the project receives approval from the central government. Once operational, the metro line will be the first to connect Bengaluru with another district, marking a significant milestone in the city’s public transportation infrastructure.

Earlier, BMRCL had announced that partial operations on the yellow line are expected to begin in June. This development is part of the broader efforts to enhance the metro network and improve the quality of public transportation in Bengaluru.
