KGF Babu is the alias of Yusuf Sharif, a Bengaluru-based realtor and politician known for his collection of luxury cars, including those owned by celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan.
KGF Babu had to pay a tax of nearly Rs 40 lakh because he was operating luxury cars registered in Maharashtra in Karnataka without paying the required state taxes, as per the RTO rules.
Out-of-state registered vehicles must pay road tax if they are used in Karnataka for over a year. This is to ensure that the state receives its due revenue from the usage of vehicles on its roads.
In 2021, the Rolls-Royce bearing registration number MH 02 BB 0002 was impounded by RTO officials. However, it was released shortly afterward, allegedly due to intervention from higher-ups in the department.
KGF Babu acknowledged that he made a mistake out of ignorance and urged others who own vehicles registered outside Karnataka to voluntarily approach their local RTOs and clear any pending tax dues.
