Real Estate Pune:In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old resident of Karvenagar in Pune was duped of Rs 10.18 lakh by cybercrooks who posed as executives of an online real estate service provider company. The incident occurred on October 26 last year, and the victim, an employee of a private company, filed a complaint with the Pune cyber police. After a preliminary investigation, a case was registered with the Warje Malwadi police on Thursday.

According to Inspector Nilkanth Jagtap of the Warje Malwadi police, the victim was searching for a flat to rent through the app of a real estate services provider company. The crook contacted him and offered to show him a flat, claiming that before entering the society premises, the victim would need a gate pass. The crook initially took small amounts from the victim, citing the need to generate the pass. Under the pretext of some technical issues, the crooks made the victim transfer more amounts, eventually duping him of Rs 10.18 lakh.

The police have registered the case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The investigations are ongoing. This incident highlights the dangers of online fraud and the need for individuals to be cautious when dealing with online transactions.
