According to Inspector Nilkanth Jagtap of the Warje Malwadi police, the victim was searching for a flat to rent through the app of a real estate services provider company. The crook contacted him and offered to show him a flat, claiming that before entering the society premises, the victim would need a gate pass. The crook initially took small amounts from the victim, citing the need to generate the pass. Under the pretext of some technical issues, the crooks made the victim transfer more amounts, eventually duping him of Rs 10.18 lakh.
The police have registered the case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The investigations are ongoing.
